Dear Friends,
This week one man prayed with me according to the pattern of Luke 18:13 & Romans 10:9. He wrote:
“Hello, Mr Tour. I saw that it said in one of your videos to email you if I did not believe in the resurrection of Jesus Christ. I also saw that many in the comments said that you went on a zoom call with them and that it was pretty eye opening. Would I be able to do the same with you? Thank you for your time, __________________”
I met with this young man in his 20s. He is a special needs/behavioral specialist focusing on children with autism. He listened quietly and attentively—a characteristic that is likely needed to work with special needs children. He was immediately fine to pray with an open heart at the end, and he assured me that he would try his best to follow through on the daily Bible reading and Bible study.
In recent months, personal gospel conversations over Zoom have become more difficult. A popular YouTube personality with close to three million followers has urged his audience to book meetings with me under false pretenses, claiming they want to hear the gospel. After I spend an hour sharing, some abruptly reverse course and launch into horrid and profane attacks upon me, my faith, and my comments regarding the origin of life. In response, I try to remain patient, listening carefully and attempting to re-open meaningful dialogue, but it leads nowhere. Sometimes I just need to abruptly end the call because the profanity keeps coming like from the mouth of one demon-filled. Compounding this, these individuals secretly video record the conversations and pass them along to the YouTuber, who selectively edits the footage so that the gospel itself is stripped away, leaving only moments designed to portray me negatively. This has weighed on me, but the Lord graciously lifts my spirit. John 15:18 “If the world hates you, you know that it has hated Me before it hated you.” Jesus forewarned me. I am in the best company, that of my Lord.
God bless,
Dr. James Tour
