Dear Friends,

This week I engaged two men in the gospel, and one man prayed with me according to the pattern of Luke 18:13 & Romans 10:9.

The first man with whom I shared was a Jewish attorney in his 50s. He had reached out, wishing to hear about the resurrection. He listened intently and showed great respect. But when it came time to pray, he was unable to proclaim the Lordship of Jesus. We discussed a bit more, but he was unmoved. I wish I had switched to the mode which Charles Spurgeon referred to as “let the gospel cut and hack,” to show this man the dangers of continuing to walk in unbelief. If the appeals do not afford the conversion, more is necessary, Spurgeon said. I left the attorney with the reading of Isaiah 52:13 through 53:12, from his own scriptures about the Messiah, hoping he would see the Messiah, Jesus, in this Jewish passage.

The second was a caught fish. A young man from India who is studying medicine. He came to the Bible class last week, and then at the following lunch, we agreed to meet this week, whereupon I would share my story of receiving Jesus. Indeed, he returned again this week for the class and then to our home for lunch. He and I moved over to a separate table after lunch, and I shared the good news and the evidence for the resurrection. He received and prayed and agreed to daily scripture reading, 15 minutes each morning, and the 1-hour per week mentoring for 13 weeks going through “Growing in Christ” by Nav Press. Chuck Lloyd is assigning a mentor.

Luke 5:10
And Jesus said to Simon, "Do not fear, from now on you will be catching men.”

Both of these men with whom I shared were part of a fishing expedition. The latter was far more fun since it resulted in catching. I much prefer catching over merely fishing.

God bless,

Jim Tour
