Dear Friends,

This week one man prayed with me according to the pattern of Luke 18:13 & Romans 10:9.

He is a clinical psychologist in his 50s, and I later learned that he specializes in treating PTSD; he himself has had a traumatic experience, which is why he chose to never marry, sparing a partner from his emotional pain. He started by writing this somewhat odd introduction:

Subject: Perhaps it’s a trust issue developed in childhood

Hi Dr Tour, Thank you for your great work. It’s helping me to believe. Perhaps some individuals who don’t believe have trust issues from trauma in childhood. They reached out for love from a parent and were either rejected or punished so perhaps they learnt not to trust those who are meant to be providers of love. Much appreciated.

Thanks, __________, Clinical Psychologist

I replied:

Dear Dr. ___________, Maybe. But many abused ones do get saved. I see it all the time. God bless, Jim

He replied:

Absolutely 🙏. I am still stuck on the resurrection my conditioning keeps asking “How could this be possible?” Thank you again for your amazing work

I then asked:

Dear ________, Do you believe in the resurrection of Jesus? God bless, Jim Tour

He replied:

Hi James, I am trying to believe. I really want to. I just keep getting stuck / confused / blocking. I follow the medical research on NDE’s I believe that it’s credible – this research matches with my internal criteria for trust. I have had an experience and I know someone was there with me. I want to believe I want to have Faith. Thank you,

He lives overseas, but we arranged to meet by Zoom while he was at a professional meeting in California. He is an unusual man, but most likable and kind. Super gentle. Also deeply thoughtful. Every scripture verse that I asked him to read, he insisted on reading aloud multiple times to better understand its meaning. And then he would start to weep. I would explain the text, always using an example through a simple analogy. He said that the analogies really helped. This proceeded more slowly than usual since he was so pensive. Thankfully, I had not scheduled another time of sharing back-to-back with this one, so I could take my time. When it came time to pray, he was ready and willing. He received the message with many tears of joy. He must have thanked me 20 times. He agreed to daily reading of the scriptures and 13-week Bible study with Mike Jackson. He did not own a Bible, so I emailed the link to a Bible App.

The glorious gospel! It never loses its power to liberate the soul from sin and make a man whole again. This one was such a blessing to witness.

Luke 17:17-19
Then Jesus answered and said, “Were there not ten cleansed? But the nine—where are they? Was no one found who returned to give glory to God, except this foreigner?” And He said to him, “Stand up and go; your faith has made you well.”

God bless,

Jim Tour
