Dear Friends,
This week two men prayed with me according to the pattern of Luke 18:13 & Romans 10:9. It was so much fun seeing them come to faith.
The first is in his early 20s, from Australia, studying neuroscience and psychology in college, and he wrote:
Hello Dr. Tour. I am an atheist and would like to have a 1-hour Zoom session with you as you have given the opportunity to all atheists (unbelievers). I am based in Australia. Kind regards, __________________
This man was attracted to Jesus through YouTube videos by apologists like John Lennox. After sharing, he readily accepted and gave his life to Jesus, and he is now in Bible study with a Shawn Simme, and in daily reading.
The next is a man who wrote:
Dear Dr. James, I recently came across one of your YouTube videos and heard your invitation: that if someone struggles to believe in the resurrection of Jesus, they can book a Zoom call with you and you would help them believe. That’s why I’m writing you now. I was born into a Muslim family and I live in [the Middle East]. Over the past year, I began reading the Gospels with an open heart, and I believe in one true God, and more importantly, I’ve experienced His presence in my life in ways I can’t deny. These moments of answered prayer were undeniable. I would deeply appreciate the chance to speak with you privately over Zoom, if possible. My desire is to follow God fully, and I feel this conversation might help me take the next step. Thank you for your time, your courage, and your kindness in making yourself available to people like me. With respect, ___________
He is a Palestinian refugee from childhood, studied in the Middle East, and got his master’s degree in computer engineering. He worked for Microsoft in the Middle East, and now he works as a computer engineer for the government of another Middle Eastern country. He is in his 40s and he is married. When we met, he shared a little about himself. As a refugee, it was always hard to succeed, but his parents taught him about the God of Islam and to be educated. In 2015, when he saw what ISIS was doing, and none of the Islamic leaders were condemning them, he became disillusioned with Islam. He read the Koran 500 times, but the more he investigated its veracity through history and archaeology, the more Islam fell apart. He really wanted God. He felt Islam was brainwashing him: just believe and do not question. He wanted a way to peace with God. He started reading the gospels online since Bibles could not be purchased in his country. Even Amazon would not ship him a Bible in his country.
As I shared the gospel with him, he readily received the message with many tears of joy. He is set up in daily reading and in weekly Bible study using “Growing in Christ,” with Burt Brink. After our meeting, he sent me the following:
Dear Dr. James and Mr. Brink, Thank you both from the bottom of my heart. Dr. James, yesterday’s meeting was a true blessing, and I felt so overwhelmed while I was in it that I didn’t know how to explain it. It meant a lot to me not only to hear the scientific and historical truth about Jesus Christ’s resurrection but also to have the opportunity to share my own journey of faith. I cannot thank you enough for your openness, kindness, and clarity. Yes, I would definitely love to join your Bible study group on Sundays. 10 AM Houston time works perfectly for me, it’s 7:00 PM in _________. I’ve already bookmarked your website and will begin exploring the teachings and audio resources you shared right away. The path feels much clearer now for me. Mr. Brink, thank you so much for your warm message and for offering to mentor me through the “Growing in Christ” book. I deeply appreciate your willingness to walk with me on this path, especially while you’re caring for your wife. May God bless you abundantly for your love and service. I am truly moved by your testimony. I will start with the first chapter, right away and let you know as soon as I’m ready to meet. My preferred days for our sessions would be on the weekend, either Saturday or Sunday. I can be flexible with the time…Looking forward to growing in Christ together, one step at a time. Warm regards,
Unlike other religions, the Bible welcomes questions and investigations. (I Cor 15:6 where Paul invites the readers to inquire from the witnesses to Jesus’ resurrection). We are the bearers of great news to a seeking world.
Acts 17:11
Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so.
God bless,
Dr. James Tour
