Dear Friends,
This week one man prayed with me according to the pattern of Luke 18:13 & Romans 10:9.
While many write to me giving me some background on their life and struggles in belief, this man was short and to the point:
Hello, You said in one of your videos that if someone did not believe in the physical resurrection of Jesus Christ they should send you an email. I do not believe in the physical resurrection of Jesus. Greetings from Belgium, __________________
His directness became more understandable when I learned that he is a physicist. He’s in his 30s. I shared the same old gospel message, 25 minutes on the background of sin, redemption in Jesus, by grace and not works, and repentance from sin. Romans 3:23, Matthew 5:28, Ephesians 2:8-9, Romans 6:23, Romans 5:8, and Isaiah 43:25 (Charles Spurgeon claimed this verse in Isaiah to be the most powerful verse in evangelism). I asked him to read each verse aloud, and I repeated the verse right after him, and then I dissected each portion of each verse when explaining it to him. Then we spent 30 minutes on Romans 10:9 with biblical and extra-biblical evidence for the resurrection of Jesus. I could tell, by that point, this young physicist was ready for prayer. I never ask people if they wish to pray with me because people are programmed to say no. So, as is my practice, I told him that I was going to pray aloud, and he should repeat after me. I did, and he did.
This young physicist is now committed to daily reading of the scriptures, using the same methodology: prayer, asking God to open his eyes, reading each verse twice, and then dissecting it into portions, asking God to bring illumination. He is also set up for weekly Bible study for 13 weeks of discipleship.
1 Corinthians 15:1-4
Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, in which also you stand, 2 by which also you are saved, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain. 3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.
God bless,
Dr. James Tour
